How it works

Simple, structured, built around you.

01

Weekly private lessons

One-on-one in soundproof studios. Same instructor, same time slot every week. Consistency is what makes progress stick.

02

Choose your length

30 minutes is our standard lesson and works for almost everyone. Want 45, 60, or a different cadence? Just ask. We'll build a custom schedule around you.

03

Any age, any level

From age 5 through retirement. Total beginner, returning player, or preparing for college auditions, we'll match you with the right teacher.

04

Bring your instrument

Or use ours for trial lessons. Don't have one yet? We rent and sell, with package deals for new students.

Music for every age

Never thought you could play? We disagree.

One of our goals at Music Forte is to open music up to anybody, of any age. If you've always wanted to learn an instrument but talked yourself out of it, we'd love to talk.

Adults teaching adults

Most of our instructors are working musicians who started their own journeys later than you'd think. They get it: the rust, the nerves, the squeezed-in practice time. And they meet you where you are.

Daytime hours, around your schedule

Evenings book up fast with school-age students, so we keep daytime slots open specifically for adults, retirees, and anyone with a flexible workday. Easier to park, quieter studios, and your instructor is fresh.

Built around you, not a curriculum

Picking up an old instrument? Want to play one specific song at your kid's wedding? Working on stage fright? Tell us where you want to go, and we'll customize the lesson plan to get you there.

Our instructors

Working musicians. Patient teachers.

Every Music Forte instructor is formally trained. Most hold degrees in music performance or music education, with years of teaching experience across all ages and skill levels.

They're also active musicians themselves: performing in bands, orchestras, churches, and ensembles across the Philadelphia region. Your teacher isn't just qualified. They actually live and play music for a living.

Formally educated

Degrees in performance or music education from accredited programs.

Years of teaching

Experienced with every age group, from preschool to adult learners.

Active performers

Working musicians who teach what they actually play professionally.

Background-checked

Vetted and chosen for their ability to connect with students.

Your first lesson

What to expect.

Arrive 5–10 min early

Stop at the front desk to check in. We'll show you to your studio and introduce you to your instructor.

Bring your instrument

If you have one. Don't yet? We have loaners for trial lessons and rentals or sales for ongoing students.

Parents are welcome

Sit in for the first lesson if you'd like. After that, most parents wait in our front area or run errands.

No experience needed

Most of our students start as total beginners. Your teacher will meet you exactly where you are.

On stage at Music Forte

Real music, real audiences.

Our instructors play real shows in the store, and our students take the same stage at recital nights and store events, building the kind of confidence you can't pick up in a practice room.

Community

More than lessons. A place to perform.

Twice a year, our students take the stage for recitals: a low-pressure, family-friendly chance to share what they've been working on. For over forty years, families have come back to Music Forte across generations: parents who took lessons here as kids now bringing in their own. That's the part you can't find at the studio down the street.

FAQ

Common questions.

For your first lesson, no. We'll provide one in the studio. For ongoing lessons, you'll need access to an instrument at home for practice. We offer rentals and sales, including starter packages for new students at every budget.
Generally age 5 and up, though it depends on the instrument and the student. Piano and voice can start a little younger; instruments that require physical size (cello, saxophone) typically start a bit later. Adults are very welcome. We have students well into their 70s.
Absolutely, especially for younger students or first lessons. Many parents observe the first few weeks and then settle into a rhythm of waiting in our front area or running errands during the lesson.
We do our best to accommodate make-ups for cancellations made in advance. Same-day cancellations and no-shows generally can't be made up, since the studio and instructor are reserved. Specific policies are reviewed at registration.
Sooner than you might think. Most students play recognizable songs within the first month or two, with consistent weekly practice between lessons. The honest answer is that progress depends mostly on practice, and your teacher will help build sustainable habits early.
Yes. Twice a year, in a low-pressure, family-friendly setting. Participation is optional but strongly encouraged. Performing for an audience is one of the fastest ways to build real confidence on an instrument.
Lessons are billed monthly, automatically. We accept all major cards. You'll get a clear breakdown each month of how many lessons are included.
Easiest way is to call us at (215) 946-9295 or email info@musicforte.org. We'll learn a little about the student, match you with the right instructor, and get a weekly time on the calendar that works for your family.
